Site Performance - Please comment so that we can sort out annoyances!

It has been brought to my attention that some members are experiencing the site as being painfully slow at times, particularly when a few members are online at the same time. This is just not acceptable and unfortunately it is outwith my control but in the hands of the Ning administrators who host these community sites.

Obviously, as the founder of this site I am less than happy to hear this news and Rod, Julie and myself would appreciate a few minutes of your time to tell us if you are experiencing an unworkable slowness of the site to the point where it is painful to browse, upload images, send e-mails and basically hamper your enjoyment of using the site etc...

Now, I must confess, that I personally have never had a problem on this site with uploading, slowness or inability to send e-mails, therefore, I did not realise that others were experiencing problems (and I do not get any special conditions as an administrator in any way) so I am a bit perplexed.

We desperately need to get this sorted out if the majority of you are experiencing site problems and we would appreciate your response enormously. When your respond, could you tell us which operating system you use such as Vista, XP, whether you use Internet Explorer or Firefox or another as your browser and whether you are on dial up or cable? The more information you offer, the better chance we have of telling Ning of the specific problems we are experiencing. If you are not experiencing any problems then we need to know this as well in order to solve this mystery.

Hi Lesley, Thank you for bringing this up, I have had problems for a little while with both sites , I am on wireless connection and have Vista Home Premium on my laptop, and use internet explorer. We have recently had to get a new modem and now my laptop is working a lot better, last night had no problems getting into site, but this morning, I gave up as home page just wouldnt open properly, tonight it took a good 5 minutes to download the home page, I have always thought it was because of where I live, and as have a lot of problems with my computer, I just thought it was me, I have heard people on wireless connection are experiencing problems with it, hope this helps......

I'm inclined to believe it's individual net services than the website. I'm on a fast connection (ADSL 2+) and whilst I've sometimes experienced slowness, it's not unique to the site - other sites I open at the same time give similar results, thus the problem is the net, not the site. Slowness can happen when people cap their download limit, or (more commonly), the service provider is flat out / having techinical issues. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Lesley,

I just went through some members galleries, commented, uploaded 4 photos (from Flickr) deleted three, went to a couple of links and had no trouble at all.
There were three other members on the site at the time, it was 1800hr here in Perth, I use XP and Firefox and I'm on cable.
Hope that helps and I must apologise for not being a more frequent member :-)

Lesley ,Dont think Sandra will mind , but I had a message from her at beginnining of week and she said she was having the same problems as me, and she is on wireless as well, so that is interesting......I had no problems getting on here this morning...Julie

Hello Lesley,
Yes...I have had problems several times and was so frustrated that I eventually gave up! It has been mostly with the uploading of pics. But..then I returned at a different time and eventually posted what I wanted to appear. It is frustrating if you have allocated that time to do the task and then have to come back later. But I do understand that it is not from any fault of yours :)
